As your baby learns how to walk, it remains important to follow the basic rules of non toxic cleaning and use only eco cleaning products. During this time babies use their feet a lot and will be playing on the floor very often. If you are not using the correct products, your child might inadvertently be exposed to harmful chemicals from synthetic household cleaners.
One of the most important developmental milestones that your child will reach is walking. One day you have a crawling baby at your feet, the next you are chasing him/her around the house. This is your baby’s first major move towards independence.
Remember that all babies reach milestones at different times. There is a wide variation as to what is considered developmentally appropriate and “normal”. If you have any concerns about your child please consult with your pediatrician.
Your baby develops certain motor skills during the first year. The body becomes ready to develop muscle strength and coordination. But before your child becomes ready to walk, he/she first learns how to sit, bounce, roll over, and crawl. This usually happens at the age of 5 months.
By 8 months, your child will be able to stand with the help of a supporting object like a chair. It is important to make sure that everything that your child comes into contact with at this point is strong enough to support him and will not injure him. The next step is cruising, or moving from one piece of furniture to the next for support. Your baby may now be able to stand on his/her own for a second!
When your child reaches about 10 months of age, he will begin to learn how to bend the knees and to sit down after standing. A month later, your child should be able to stand, squat, and bend down to pick something up from the ground. Initially, your child will probably feel comfortable walking while gripping onto your fingers. But gradually he/she will let go and won’t stop walking, and then running! This milestone will usually take place before a baby is 12 months of age. More than three quarters of babies will have mastered the skill of walking alone by the time they are 13 to 15 months of age.
But of course, this many not be true for all babies. Others will be able to walk only after their 15th month, especially if they were born premature. Only be concerned if your child’s walking skills seems to be significantly delayed. This is important in order to rule out any developmental problems.
