Mothers-to-be are quick to anticipate the coming of their family’s newest addition. They only want the best for their babies and therefore purchase the safest cribs and strollers, the cutest mobiles, the most comfortable sleeping sacks and tons of organic, natural and baby-safe products. However, some women may not necessarily have a smooth labor. Sometimes, a Caesarian section is necessary. Why is this so? It may due to one or a combination of several factors:
You’re having twins or more. Having two or more babies may require you to have a Caesarian birth. It is difficult to give birth to multiples vaginally, and frequently one of the babies is in the breech position (feet first).
Your baby is positioned the wrong way. There may be instances when a baby is breech or in a transverse lie (the baby lies sideways across the mother’s womb). If your baby is in either of these positions, your doctor might opt for a Caesarian section.
Your baby is too big. If your baby is too big, it may be dangerous to let him/her pass through the natural way. This condition is known as cephalopelvic disproportion, and your doctor can determine if you will need a Caesarian birth.
The baby is in distress. If your baby is in medical distress a C-section may be necessary. Sometimes the baby cannot handle the stress of labor, or the umbilical cord becomes wrapped around the neck.
Labor does not progress. Sometimes, labor does not progress and the cervix does not fully dilate. This can increase the risk for infection and complications, and the doctor may recommend Caesarian birth.
The mother suffers from medical condition or disease. If you are suffering from medical conditions like diabetes, preeclampsia, high blood pressure or stress, you might be required to have a Caesarian section. In addition, sexually transmitted infections can prevent safe delivery of a baby and Caesarian section might be recommended.
Your baby is post-mature. A baby that gestates too long inside the womb is at risk for complications, as is its’ mother.
Whether you deliver your baby naturally or through Caesarian section, it will not change the fact that you will be bringing home a new addition to your family. Always remember to keep your surroundings clean by using only natural, organic and baby-safe cleaning products to help protect your child from harmful bugs and from exposure to chemical substances.
