Ways to Improve Your Home’s Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air is defined as the air you breathe within your home as well around it. In most modern homes, the quality or purity of this air is often affected by contaminants ranging from microbial impurities like bacteria and molds, particulate matter and gases like carbon monoxide, radon and volatile organic compounds or VOCs. Essentially, any kind of mass or energy stressor that makes indoor air unhealthy and can affect an occupant’s health is considered a contaminant or a pollutant. It is very important to maintain indoor air quality to make sure that your family will not be exposed to toxins or harmful germs.

Improve ventilation. Your home’s heating and cooling systems do not permit fresh air to enter the house. Often, you keep your homes sealed to enable these systems to work, trapping contaminants and pollutants inside your house in the process. You can let in fresh air more often by opening your windows and running fans and exhaust vents inside the house. Doing these activities can also help take the pollutants out of your home when you’re cooking, cleaning or painting.

Install air cleaners. You can also install air cleaners that may help remove particulate pollutants from your home. Choose those with high percentage efficiency rate and those that draw in more cubic feet of air per minute. You can also put indoor plants which give off fresh oxygen but make sure not to over-water their pots to prevent germs or molds from growing in the damp soil.

Remove the pollutants. The most effective way to improve your home’s indoor air quality is to remove items in your house which can become sources of pollution. For example, you should not use synthetic household cleaning agents which may release toxic chemicals to the air you breathe. Use safe, effective and natural household solutions like those from BabyGanics, which contain no harmful toxins or chemicals that may harm your family.

I really appreciate the tips. With a husband that suffers from asthma and severe allergies, our indoor air quality is something that has a major effect on his health.
